MediaTek Helio G70 vs Helio G80 vs Helio G90T – Antutu-Geekbench Benchmark Scores

MediaTek recently added two new chipsets called Helio G70 and Helio G80 in its gaming “G” lineup. There was a time when MediaTek was dominating the lower mid-range segment. But, slowly but steadily Snapdragon overtook its dominance. In the previous few years, MediaTek’s core audience had been almost wiped out. Besides, most of the people have started ignoring its SoCs after they have faced many issues such as heating and lagging.

At the current scenario, MediaTek is trying every possible way to fight against Snapdragon’s legacy. with the launch of Helio “G” series, somehow, MediaTek gets some success as well. We have seen a few successful mid-range gaming smartphones using Helio G90T chipsets under the hood. Redmi Note 8 is its prime example. MediaTek now showcased Helio G70 and G80 to enhance its portfolio. In this article, we will be comparing MediaTek Helio G70 vs Helio G80 vs Helio G90T. So without any further delay, let’s get started!

CPU and GPU Performance

Starting with MediaTek Helio G70, it comes with an octa-core CPU divided into two clusters. The powerful two Cortex-A75 cores clock @2.0GHz and six power-efficient Cortex-A55 @1.7GHz. Helio G80 also has a similar story with two bigger cores @2.0GHz, but remaining six cores get some boost with 1.8GHz speed. On the other hands, MTK G90T has the most powerful CPU when it comes to this trio comparison. It has two upgraded Cortex-A76 cores cloaked @2.05GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores @2.0GHz.

Helio G90T Specs

Moreover, All three chipset utilizes the 64-bit architecture and 12nm processing node. Obviously, these three SoCs stand nowhere against their arch-rival Snapdragon 730G when it comes to power efficiency. But performance is actually very good thangs to the good optimisation made by MediaTek. Comparing between Helio G70 vs G80 vs G90T, undoubtedly Helio G90T is most powerful in CPU department with the latest Cortex-A76 cores. It offers seamless performance with powerful CPU configurations.

In the GPU criteria, both MediaTek Helio G70 and G80 arrive with Mali-G52 2EEMC2 GPU. But Helio G80 GPU gets overclocked frequency @950MHz in comparison 820MHz found on Helio G70. The Helio G90T has more powerful Mali-G76 graphics card. Which is significantly faster then Mali-G52, even with lower frequencies. Overall, both CPU and GPU performance of Helio G90T is better than the Helio G70 and G80. MediaTek Helio G80 is in the second position, but the difference between these two chipsets is marginal.

Connectivity

Even though, most of the growing markets can’t achieve max. potential due to limited internet speeds, baseband modem speed doesn’t matter a lot. Still, it is good for knowledge perspective. MediaTek Helio G90T with an integrated 4G modem can achieve maximum 600Mbps download and 150Mbps upload speeds. As both Helio G70 and G80 use the same 4G modem, these can go up to 300Mbps download and 150Mpbs upload speeds. Rest the connectivity features are mostly identical between these three chipsets such as Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 5 (a/b/g/n/ac), Beidou, Galileo, Glonass, GPS, NFC and FM Radio.

Camera, Display and More

In the optics department, both MTK Helio G70 and G80 specifications are identical. Both the SoCs support up to single 48MP 4-cell camera or traditional 25MP lonely shooter @30fps. Both of them can also hold up to dual 16MP + 16MP on both front and rear portion of a specific device. These are well capable of recording up to 1440p 2K video @30fps or 1080p Full HD+ video @60fps. The MTK Helio G90T can go up to 64MP single camera @22.5fps or single 48MP camera @30fps. When it comes to dual-camera support, it can adopt up to 24MP + 16MP sensors. It means Helio G90T comes as better chipset for sharper cameras with higher megapixels.

For display, all three can support up to 1080 x 2520 pixels Full HD+ displays. Which is actually more than sufficient for mid-range devices. Most of the affordable smartphones use max. Full HD+ displays and also good for the long-lasting battery. Indeed, there is no difference at all in the display department. Moreover, both Helio G70 and G80 are restricted to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM, which is not the case with Helio G90T. It supports up to 10GB LPDDR4X RAM at faster 2133 MHz speed. All three chipsets have UFS 2.1 flash storage or traditional eMMC 5.1 storage type.
