Xiaomi was holding a Future Image Technology conference in Bejing for August 7, and finally, the day has arrived. Lin Bin, co-founder & Xiaomi president and Li Jishuo, the global vice president of Samsung Electronics’ LSI Division, today jointly announced (via: Ithome) 64MP camera as expected.
First of all, Lin Bin introduced Xiaomi’s roadmap from where they started to enhance camera capabilities. Xiaomi head quotes, ” Xiaomi set up an independent camera team two years ago. In May 2018, the camera department was set up, involving all aspects of hardware and software technology development globally.” He further adds, “Xiaomi currently has more than 1,000 people in the AI algorithm team, the global AI patent reached 684, ranking 11th in the world and they will continue to advance on the road of ultra-clear.”
Speaking about the new 64MP camera, he said that the new camera module uses Samsung’s GW1 sensor. It comes with a 1/1.7″ ultra-large bottom sensor, which is 34% larger than their previous sensor with the average image size to remain about 19MB, and It supports four-in-one pixel-binning technology.
Furthermore, the camera comes with pixel-isolated ISOCELL PLUS technology, which guarantees high color reproduction while improving image sensitivity by 15%. At the same time, the intelligent ISO technology can ensure that the highlights of the photos are not exposed, and the noise in the dark parts is less.
Additionally, there are plenty of more features such as hybrid 3D HDR, intelligent pixel-level hierarchical exposure, hardware-level real-time HDR, ensuring a wider dynamic range of photos, and clear backlighting. When it comes to the launch, the company chief promises to soon bring a new Redmi device with the new 64MP camera, whereas, the name and date aren’t final yet.
Apart from that, at the end of the presentation, Lin bin surprises us by claiming that a 100MP camera is not far away from their reach. The company teases an MI smartphone with 108MP camera to arrive in the near future. However, there is not much information available about the mentioned camera, but Xiaomi will certainly to be the first OEM to produce 108MP camera smartphone.
