Report: MediaTek 6nm SoC is on the way after unveiling the affordable 5g mid-ranger next year

The Taiwanese firm MediaTek had recently announced its first 5G chip, which will enter into mass production by the Q1, 2020. It is a high-end chipset by using ARM’s latest Cortex-A77 cores and Mali-G77 GPU under the hood. The Helio M70 5G modem integration delivers up to 4.7 Gbps download, and 2.5 Gbps upload speeds. It will have advanced AI processing units (APU) for enhanced Artificial Intelligence capabilities.

After launching the first 5G chip, the company will follow up with another mid-range 5G processor, Mydrivers claims in its latest report. The new chip carries model number MT6873. Considering the specifications, it will be the same as the current one, but at an affordable price point.  The chip size will be reduced by 25%, the report further pointed out. It is expected to be mass-produced in the second quarter of next year, and the equipment will be available in the third quarter. The shipments of these two chips are expected to comprise 40-50 million next year.

MediaTek will enter into TSMS’s 6nm EUV production after launching these two 5G processors. It is speculated to bring next-generation Mali GPU and upgraded CPU cores. As far as availability is concerned, MediaTek’s 6nm chip is expected to complete its design by Q3, 2020, and mass production to take place by the beginning of the Q4 same year. Its commercial availability might take place from the starting of 2021.

According to the report, MediaTek aims to exceed 100 million units delivered using these chipsets. Some popular brands like Oppo and Vivo are already on the list of using MediaTek first 5G SoC. Likewise, they are anticipated to retain the tie-up for next-generation SoC either. For further information, stay in touch with us!
