In recent times, we have seen brands like Samsung and Huawei forming foldable devices, even though Samsung has faced some flaws during the new creation. The Chinese firm TCL took a different way to design a foldable smartphone.

According to CNET, who took the hands-on TCL prototype device, the company is working on a tri-fold device, which is more on a tablet side rather than calling it a smartphone. Unlike Samsung and Huawei, TCL phone has a single screen that splits into three layers. It utilizes the two hinges that move in opposite directions; The DragonHinge folds in, like a Galaxy Fold or greeting card, whereas the Butterfly Hinge folds the opposite way. As you open the device, it creates a unique twisted shape and while closed, it gathers deftly like a usual smartphone.

Moreover, the company didn’t reach the commercial stage, even the name isn’t yet finalized, the CNET report further pointed out. It is likely to incorporate approx. a 10-inch display, four rear cameras, the single front-facing shooter, USB Type-C port. The phone will most probable dith the 3.5mm headphone jack according to the prototype device. Being a prototype device, we can’t really ensure whether it will get a commercial treatment or not! As of now, the new concept seems to be really refreshing.

TCL Phone Expected Specifications

  • Approx. 10-inch display

We have recently reported about the LG patent, which seems to borrow a similar kind of concept. The company has secured a foldable device, that is wrapped in three layers, and a pencil can be inserted in the middle. Given the current scenario, TCL has redeemed the first place by giving us practical use before any other brand does. In the coming years, we can see a strong competition between top brands innovating new things as far as the smartphone industry is concerned. What are your thoughts?
