Display and Body

The Moto G8 Plus features a 6.3-inch Full HD+ LCD display at 1080 x 2280 pixels screen resolution. Redmi Note 8 Pro arrives with 6.53-inch 1080 x 2340 pixels LCD display, while, the Realme 5 Pro has the same resolution, but a smaller 6.3-inch screen on the front. The key highlight of the Redmi Note 8 Pro body is that it is fully made of glass design. Both front and rear glass have Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

On the other hand, both Moto G8 Plus and Realme 5 Pro have Polycarbonate Plastic rear back. Definitely, glass back feels more premium, but it is more fingerprint magnet then the Plastic back. It depends on your personal choice, otherwise, glass back has more advantages. Moto G8 hasn’t been specified any protection for front glass. The Realme 5 Pro brings Corning Gorilla Glass 3+ protected front glass.

Moto G8 Plus Specifications

The Moto G8 Plus measures 158.4 x 75.8 x 9.1 mm and weighs 188 grams. Redmi Note 8 Pro dimensions are 161.4 x 76.4 x 8.8 mm with 200 grams weight. Finally, Realme 5 Pro carries 157 x 74.2 x 8.9 mm with 184 grams of weight. All three have almost similar height, width, and depth. Being a bigger display on Redmi Note 8 Pro, it is slightly taller than the other two and few extra grams of weight either.

Hardware and Software

Starting with Moto G8 Plus, it uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor paired with Adreno 610 GPU. The Realme 5 Pro has a comparatively more powerful Snapdragon 712 chipset combined with Adreno 616 GPU. This time Redmi took a different approach by using MediaTek Helio G90T chipset with Mali-G76 MC4 on Redmi Note 8 Pro smartphone. Usually, the company is known for using Qualcomm processors due to higher demand in international markets. The change is slightly on a risky side. However, MediaTek Helio G90T is a very powerful processor, but critics argue with a lack of developer support for MediaTek SoCs.

If we compare these three chipsets, Helio G90T is a clear winner with powerfull CPU cores. You can check out our full comparison between Snapdragon 665 vs 710 vs 712 and MediaTek Helio G90T vs Snapdragon 665. The Snapdragon 665 used on Moto G8 Plus is not comparable to Snapdragon 712 and Helio G90T. These two chipsets are way more powerful; therefore, Moto G8 Plus has weaker hardware. Moreover, there is no difference in Software.

All three smartphones run on Android 9 Pie based on custom UI. The Redmi Note 8 Pro uses MIUI 10 user interface, whereas, Realme 5 Pro has ColorOS 6. Custom UI used on Moto G8 Plus is near to Stock Android, but it has some additional features added. Overall, it depends on your personal preference which UI you like most, otherwise, all three have the Android 9 Pie operating system.

Camera and Storage

The Moto G8 Plus sports a triple 48MP, f/1.7 (wide) + 16 MP, f/2.2 (ultra-wide) + 5 MP, f/2.2 (depth) rear camera. Moving on, Redmi Note 8 Pro has Quad rear camera setup with 64MP, f/1.9 (wide) + 8MP, f/2.2 (ultra-wide) + 2MP, f/2.4 (macro) + 2MP, f/2.4 (depth). Lastly, Realme 5 Pro also has quad rear camera, but a different 48MP, f/1.8 (wide) + 8MP, f/2.2 (ultra-wide) + 2MP, f/2.4 (macro) + 2MP, f/2.4 (depth) arrangement.

Realme 5 Pro Camera

Almost, all three have ultra-wide shots and depth camera for enhanced focus on the object. But Moto G8 Plus lacks Macro Lens adopted by Redmi Note 8 Pro and Realme 5 Pro. You can take some nice shots using the camera of all three smartphones. As we have mentioned earlier, our comparison is based on specification, we can’t really asses which camera will perform better in real-world usage. Based on specs, Redmi Note 8 Pro has the edge of higher pixel count.

Considering the storage, Moto G8 Plus has a single variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. Redmi Note 8 Pro brings multiple storage variants; 6GB RAM, 64GB / 128GB storage or 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The Realme 5 Pro either have various storage options with 4/6GB RAM, 64GB storage or 8GB RAM, 128GB of built-in storage. All three have expandable memory, but Realme 5 Pro has the advantage of utilizing a dedicated micro SD slot.

The battery is the department is taking a boost as tasks are becoming more battery hungry. Brands are really concerned about offering a decent battery at an affordable price point without ruing the device design. As far as Moto G8 Plus battery is concerned, it packs a 4,000 mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. The Redmi Note 8 Pro also has a similar kind of find charging support but has a bigger 4,500 mAh non-removable battery. The Realme 5 Pro boasts a 4,035 mAh battery with 20W VOOC 3.0 fast charging support.

Pricing and Availability

The Moto G8 Plus is priced at 13,999 INR and it has a single variant. It comes in Blue and Pink color options and exclusively available on online. Redmi Note 8 Pro price starts from 14,999 INR, which goes up to 15,999 INR for 6GB RAM / 128GB storage variant and 16,999 INR for 8GB RAM / 128GB storage variant. The device is available for sale on Amazon and as well as Mi Offline stores available across the country.

As for Realme 5 Pro, it costs 13,999 INR for the base variant, 6GB / 64GB is priced at 14,999 and goes up to 15,999 INR for 8GB / 128GB variant. The device has Blue and Green color options. It is available on Flipkart for sale. Both Moto G8 Plus and Realme 5 Pro are being sold in open sale. As usual, Redmi Note 8 Pro only sells in flash sales. If you want to buy Redmi Note 8 Pro, you have to wait for a flash sale, but it isn’t a big deal.

Overall, Redmi Note 8 Pro has powerful hardware, a stable user interface, and a bigger battery. In comparison, Realme 5 Pro has a slightly less powerful processor, but Snapdragon has more stable performance and slightly less power-hungry. Finally, Moto G8 Plus has average specifications. It doesn’t stand against Redmi Note 8 Pro and Realme 5 Pro. Only those who like the Stock Android experience can consider this device. Otherwise, we don’t recommend to look into this device if your budget is around 14-15k. What are your thoughts? Do let’s know in below comment section!
