Hardware and Performace

The Snapdragon 710 AIE brings the dual-cluster octa-core using the 2x Kryo 360 Gold Cortex-A75 @2.2 GHz and remaining 6x Kryo 360 Silver Cortex-A55 @1.7 GHz. On the other hand, Snapdragon 712 has overclocked CPU with two Kryo 360 cores @2.3GHz, and the other six cores are the same as 710. Lastly, Snapdragon 730 packs the latest Kryo 470 cores based on Cortex-A76 and Cortex-A55. The chipset employs the 2x Cortex-A76 cores @2.2GHz, while, the six power-efficient cores remain @1.8GHz.

Snapdragon 730 Features

Although being the latest and premium mid-range chip, Snapdragon 730 undoubtedly holds a better CPU. It is manufactured on the 8nm processor, while the other two use the 10nm process. Power efficiency also should be significantly improved for the Snapdragon 730. Indeed, Snapdragon 730 easily beat the Snapdragon 710 and 712 as well as other mid-range chipsets. All three bring the support for the latest LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB. The storage also matches the industry standards with UFS 2.1.

Moving to the GPU, both Snapdragon 710 and 712 pack the Adreno 616 GPU. On paper, it seems to be identical, but here is a catch. According to the company, Snapdragon 712 delivers a 10% better graphics performance compared to SDM710. Essential, the GPU used in Snapdragon 712 uses the faster clock speed. The Snapdragon 730 arrives with Adreno 618, which offers 15% refined performance the Snapdragon 616. The GPU segment is also dominated by Snapdragon 730. You should expect better gaming experience as well as multitasking on Snapdragon 730 powered devices.

Camera and Display

Considering the optics, all three support up to 48MP single camera or compromised up to whooping 192 single optics on both front and rear sides. There are a few changes in dual-camera combinations. The Snapdragon 730 can hold up to a dual 22MP + 22MP camera, while, other two restricts it to 16MP + 16MP camera scheme. I think all are equally good when it comes to camera count. The Snapdragon 730 accumulates the Spectra 350 IS, which is definitely produces better results than the ISPs found on the other two. It delivers 4x power savings and 4k video recording in portrait mode. The HEIF format further reduces the file size.

Both Snapdragon 710 and 712 has an advantage in order to provide a sharper display. There two support maximum 1440 x 3360 pixels Quad HD+ display panels, while the Snapdragon 730 can hold only 1080 x 2560 pixels HD+ display. However, we didn’t see any smartphone with a 2K resolution panel in the mid-range segment. But at least on paper, Snapdragon 710 and 712 look better in comparison to Snapdragon 730.

Connectivity and AI

There aren’t many changes in the connectivity department because of all three chipsets keep the same X15 LTE modem. It is capable of providing up to 800 Mbps download and 150 Mbps upload speeds. The modem includes calling features such as Dual VoLTE with SRVCC to 3G and 2G, Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) with LTE call continuity, HD, and Ultra HD Voice (EVS) calling. Other connectivity features include Bluetooth 5.0, GPS with GLONASS, 802.11a/b/g WiFi, NFC support, and USB 3.1.

To maintain Artificial Intelligence, Qualcomm uses advanced techniques and optimizations. Both Snapdragon 710 and 712 have Hexagon 685 DSP. With using this, the company claims to deliver flowless AI experiences in camera, audio, security, and gaming. Snapdragon 712 upgraded to 2nd generation neural engine, which supports the most popular Caffe, Caffe2, Tensorflow, Tensorflow Lite AI frameworks, and some others.

The Snapdragon 730 designates the Hexagon 688 DSP, an upgraded version of 685. It is fueled by the company’s 4th generation AI engine. Even though the chipset is designed for the gaming-oriented audience, we can expect an advance level of AI to be integrated. All in all, Hexagon 688 is superior then the Hexagon 685 to provide the enhanced Artificial Intelligence support.

The Snapdragon 710 scores 1,899 points in single-core, which jumps to 5,966 points on the Geekbench benchmark result. Snapdragon 712 performs slightly better with 1,910 points in single-core and 6,000 points in multi-core. Finally, Snapdragon 730 easily takes over on these two with 2,525 points in single-core and 6,950 points in multi-core results. Overall, we can say basis on these benchmark scores that Snapdragon 730 has a more powerful CPU compared to Snapdragon 710 and 712.

In Antutu, the Snapdragon 710 scores 1,66,935 points, Snapdragon 712 takes measurable lead with 1,81,025 points. Here too, Snapdragon 730 wins easily with 2,07,082 points.
