With the arrival of 5G, some major smartphone manufacturers have already started development towards the 5th generation internet connectivity. Initially, it was limited to only flagship devices, but the market leader Qualcomm plans to make it affordable. The company has launched Snapdragon 765 series with an integrated 5G modem under the hood. If we leave aside the 5G connectivity, it somehow competes with MediaTek Helio G90T in terms of performance.

The Snapdragon 730G is the predecessor of 765G; hence, we can assure it is definitely a more powerful and refined version of the Snapdragon 730 series. To clear the doubts, “G” stands for gaming in both Snapdragon 730 and Snapdragon 765. Therefore, in comparison to Standard 730 and 765, Snapdragon 765G and 730G has almost 10% faster graphics performance. In this article, we will be comparing the gaming trio Snapdragon 765G vs 730G vs Mediatek Helio G90T. So, without any further ado, let’s get started!

CPU Performance

Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G comes with a tri-cluster octa-core CPU. Where the one powerful Kryo 475 prime core is clocked @2.4GHz, 1x Kryo 475 Gold @2.2GHz and 6x power-efficient cores @1.8GHz. Snapdragon 730G utilizes the same 2x Kryo 470 Gold cores @2.2GHz, while, the remaining six Kryo 470 Silver cores @1.8GHz. On the other hand, MediaTek Helio G90T chipset also packs the dual-cluster octa-core CPU similar to Snapdragon 730G. It has two powerful Cortex-A76 cores pointed at 2.05GHz and six power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores @2.0GHz.

It will worth noting that both the Snapdragon 765G and 730G also combine the Cortex-A76 and Cortex-A55 cores. But the company customize it according to their use under different marketing name. Otherwise, it has a similar CPU structure just like the MediaTek chipset. Moreover, Snapdragon 765G has great power efficiency with Samsung’s 7nm architecture node. Snapdragon 730G follows it with the 8nm node, whereas, Helio G90T 12nm processing node. It clearly shows that Snapdragon chipsets are less power-hungry compared to Helio G90T. Smaller the chipset size meaning it requires less power to achieve great performance.

GPU

The Snapdragon 765G adopts the latest Adreno 620 GPU, which according to the company is 20% more powerful than the Adreno 618 used on Snapdragon 730G. There are several other gaming optimizations made by the company for the latest 765G series to improve the gaming experience. The company calls it “Game-Changing” under an affordable price tag. The Helio G90T SoC coupled with Mali-G76 3EEMC4 quad-core GPU to handle the graphics-intensive tasks.

If we compared based on benchmark scores, Mali-G76 GPU is nearly comparable to Adreno 620. For real-world usage, we have to wait for real-world tests. Usually, Adreno GPUs are known for providing stable gaming performance. But the Mali GPUs are not bad either. We have seen several flagships smartphones offering great gaming performance under Mali GPUs. Overall, both Mali-G76 and Adreno 620 are well capable of proving stable and lag-free graphics performance. Moreover, MediaTek employs HyperEngine technology to improve the gaming experience.

However, Qualcomm didn’t make major changes in the camera department, but still, it has upgraded the latest Spectra 355 ISP to improve the image processing. Both Snapdragon 765G and 730G can support up to dual 22MP + 22MP or single 192MP camera both front and rear. The single-camera is restricted to 36MP MFNR, ZSL @30fps, but after making some compromisation in features it can be enhanced to 192MP. The MediaTek Helio G90T supports up to 64MP single camera @22.5fps or 48MP single camera @30fps. The dual camera support is 24MP + 16MP @30fps. It also includes 3x custom ISP for faster image processing.

Moving to the memory department, Snapdragon 765G is eligible to hold up to 12GB LPDDR4X RAM. The Snapdragon 730G supports up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and Helio G90T up to 10GB LPDDR4X RAM. The storage is the same on all with UFS 2.1, which is enough to match the processing power. Overall, all three chipsets match with the current industry standards.

Display and Connectivity

Starting with Snapdragon 765G, it supports up to 1440 x 3360 pixels QHD+ display @60Hz or 1080 x 2560 pixels Full HD+ @120Hz. The Snapdragon 730G also supports up to QHD+ display, but there is no option for a 120Hz refresh rate. Lastly, MediaTek Helio G90T can only hold a 1080p display @60Hz. Undoubtedly, Snapdragon 765G is the winner here with a higher refresh rate and HDR10+ support. In 2020, we will be definitely seeing gaming-centric smartphones at an affordable price point with a faster touch response.

Considering the connectivity, Snapdragon 765G is the only in the list that comes with a 5G modem. It has integrated dual-mode SA/NSA Snapdragon X52 5G modem. The chipset is well capable of delivering whopping 3.7Gbps download and 1.2Gbps upload speeds under 5G connectivity. Snapdragon 730G with X15 LTE modem can offer up to 800Mbps download and 150Mbps upload speed.

MediaTek Helio G90T has the last position in the list with 600Mbps download and 150Mbps upload speed. Qualcomm definitely stays ahead of its competition in the connectivity department. It has already made huge investments to improve connectivity in many countries. In the connectivity department, Snapdragon 765G is an undisputed winner followed by Snapdragon 730G.

As the Snapdragon 765G-powered devices haven’t yet entered the market, Geekbench scores are not available. The Snapdragon 730G, on the hands, scores 2,538 points for single-core and 6,927 points for multi-core results. MediaTek Helio G90T powering Redmi Note 8 Pro results 2468 points in single-core and 7514 multi-core points on Geekbench. As you may have noticed, there is not a big difference between Snapdragon 730G and Helio G90T. But MediaTek chipset slightly scores better. We can expect Snapdragon 765G these two chipsets as it is holding more powerful SoC under the hood. As soon as we get further call, we will be updating these scores.

As for Antutu, a suspected Redmi K30 Antutu listing suggests Snapdragon 765G as a winner. It scores 3,02,847 points followed by 2,81,033 points for Helio G90T and 2,59,109 points for Snapdragon 730G. There is no surprise that Snapdragon 765G outperformed its competition. It is a newer chipset and comes from market leader Qualcomm. However, Helio G90T didn’t disappoint, but it is slightly less powerful than Snapdragon 765G based on benchmark scores. When compared to Snapdragon 730G, definitely, it wins at least on paper. Real-world performance is satisfactory either as I have personally used Redmi Note 8 Pro for gaming purposes.

Final Conclusion – Which one is the winner?

Before reaching any conclusion, being the latest chipset Snapdragon 765G has a clear edge on the other two. It has more power powerful CPU, GPU, and smarter AI features. According to the company, Snapdragon 765G is well capable of performing up to 5.5 Trillion tasks in a second. Integrated 5G modem makes it one of the most affordable chipset to offer 5G connectivity. Both Snapdragon 730G and MediaTek Helio G90T lack 5G support. Overall, there is no direct competition between these three chipsets.

Undoubtedly, Snapdragon 765G is the winner, Helio G90T gives tough competition to Snapdragon 730G in many areas. If we consider benchmark scores, there isn’t a huge gap between these three, but Snapdragon 765G has many advantages apart from hardware. Overall, these three chipsets are very capable to provide a smoother experience, but the Snapdragon 765G is our final winner based on the latest advancements.
